News from Melverley Church

Harvest Service

It was lovely to see the church with a full congregation again celebrating this festival. The church looked beautiful, full of autumn colours, berries, fruits, vegetables, flowers and gifts of produce. The produce collected has now been delivered to Hope House Hospice, Morda, where Lynne and Brenda were met by the manager, who received the gifts and thanked everyone. At the harvest service we also welcomed a new family to the village (Tontine House) and hope they will be very happy in Melverley.

Heritage open days

The 2021 Open Days attracted a wide variety of visitors to the church this year after missing last year due to the pandemic. The Saturday history talks, full of stories spanning the centuries from 1400-2000, attracted over forty visitors. As well as imparting my knowledge and understanding of events, every year someone tells me a little more. This year I learnt why there are tiny black holes all the way up some of the oldest oak timbers and what they held.
